Winter Storm Warning
Areas affected:
Northampton, PA; Carbon, PA; Monroe, PA; Schuylkill, PA
Including the cities of Jim Thorpe, Stroudsburg, Reading,
Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton
410 AM EDT Wed Mar 21 2018

* WHAT…Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches
are expected.

* WHERE…Southern Poconos and the Lehigh Valley.

* WHEN…Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Areas of a wintry mix will
quickly change to snow early this morning. The snow will become
heavy at times especially later this morning through early
evening when snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour are
expected. The snow then tapers off by late this evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Travel will be very difficult to
impossible, especially during this evenings commute. Be prepared
for significant reductions in visibility at times. Once snowfall
rates reach or exceed one inch per hour, it becomes difficult
for road crews to keep up due to rapid accumulations. The weight
of the snow on trees and power lines can lead to power outages.
Unnecessary travel is not recommended especially this afternoon
and evening.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for
the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
